June’s Pick

The Guest List-Lucy Foley

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51933429-the-guest-list

Quick, fun, thriller. I constantly played the “who done it” game throughout the entire thing. The end result had my eyes wide open!

May’s Pick

Home Before Dark-Riley Sager

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50833559-home-before-dark

This is Riley Sager’s 4th book and all 4 have made it on my list! I love his stuff. This one was scary as hell at parts and I couldn’t put it down. I had to stop reading it in bed at night because every sound I heard freaked me out. If you’re looking for a good ghost story, this is definitely it!

April’s Pick

When We Believed In Mermaids-Barbara O’Neal

February’s Pick

How to Walk Away-Katherine Center

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36249638-how-to-walk-away

This was a really sweet book about determination and will power, with some love thrown in. It’s a feel good read especially if you’re going through some stuff. It’ll make you smile and feel happy.

January’s Pick

This Is Not How It Ends-Rochelle B. Weinstein

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43903399-this-is-not-how-it-ends

This was the first ever book that made me cry. I cry at movies like it’s nothing but for some reason books just never have the effect on me…until this one and man did I cry. Like ugly cry. It’s a beautiful, loving but heart wrenching story. I definitely needed a little mental break when I finished it but it’s one book that will always stay with me. It’s worth the read, just have lots of tissues on hand.

2020

December’s Pick

The Wives-Tarryn Fisher

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43262893-the-wives

While I wasn’t thrilled with how it ended, it was definitely a shock. My brain was fried by the end but I was hooked instantly. It was a fast read that I didn’t want to put down. But again, the ending leaves you in both shock and annoyance at how it turned out but I still think it was worth it!

November’s Pick

A Stranger on the Beach-Michele Campbell

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41150430-a-stranger-on-the-beach

This book was insane! This was a major physiological thriller that had me hooked! So much suspense, action, twists & turns. I couldn’t put this one down.

October’s Pick

Final Girls-Riley Sager

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32796253-final-girls

This one was somewhat like a slasher flick…in fact, it they should totally make it into one. Lots of twists and turns. Spooky.

September’s Pick

Where the Forest Meets the Stars-Glendy Vanderah

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40545956-where-the-forest-meets-the-stars

Love book melted my heart. At first I didn’t think I was going to like it but it’s hard not to catch some serious feels.

August’s Pick

You’ve Been Volunteered-Laurie Gelman

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42298087-you-ve-been-volunteered

This is the second part of the Class Mom series. Being a mom with kids in elementary school AND being class mom AND PTO President, this one hit home. Hilarious!

July’s Pick

Lock Every Door-Riley Sager

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41837243-lock-every-door

Ya’ll this book. Damn. I can’t even put into words how good and crazy this book is. Just read it. Right now.

June’s Pick

Summer of ’69-Elin Hilderbrand

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/42283286-summer-of-69

Let’s pack a bag and head to Nantucket! Fun summer read for sure! Her books do not disappoint.

May’s Pick

Darkness to Light: A Memoir-Lamar Odom

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41446175-darkness-to-light

I’m a huge basketball fanatic. I grew up watching The Lakers and loved Lamar long before he married a Kardashian. This book was really good; lots of basketball talk and good insight into some major NBA players.

It’s worth noting that Lamar himself liked my Instagram post for this book 🙂

April’s Pick

Daisy Jones & The Six-Taylor Jenkins Reid

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40597810-daisy-jones-the-six

Another quick read. Written like an interview almost. Worth a read.

March’s Pick

The Silent Patient-Alex Michaelides

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40097951-the-silent-patient

A quick, easy read thriller. I found this one had a lot of filler which isn’t always my favorite but the MAJOR twist at the end made it worth it!

February’s Pick

January’s Pick

Verity-Colleen Hoover

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41957126-verity

I know we’re 5 minutes into 2019 but I think this is going to be my favorite book of the year. I don’t see how another book can top this one!

Verity left me feeling like I needed to make myself a therapy appointment. I honestly needed time to think about how I wanted to review this book. I needed time to breathe. To clear my head. Make a stiff drink.

I give it 5 stars but it wasn’t easy, but it was…I know, confusing. It’s a good book…great book! I couldn’t put it down, but WOW. The majority of the book I was gasping or swearing out loud. Also, being a mother, ironically to 2 girls, many parts of this book were hard to read which is why I felt guilty giving it 5 stars. About 75% of the way through I thought about giving up. I didn’t think I could read the whole thing & not be permanently messed up. Serious thriller. But I am SO glad I pushed through.

Colleen Hoover has a special kind of mind to put a story like this together. Very creative. I haven’t read a book like this in a long time…or ever. The twists & turns just kept coming right up until the very end. And I mean, the end left me with my jaw on the floor & my eyes popped out of my head.

This would totally make a kick ass movie too.

Reeeead it!!! Right now.

2018
December’s Pick

One Day in December-Josie Silver

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38255337-one-day-in-december

I LOOOOOVED this book! I read it in 2 books & loved every second. It’s the perfect cozy, feel good read. There wasn’t really any part of the book that dragged on with filler crap that most books tend to have.

It’s an emotional roller coaster of a book with friendships, love & a few sticky situations but it all works out. I need more books like this.

November’s Pick

Nine Perfect Strangers-Liane Moriarty

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39280445-nine-perfect-strangers

This is the same author that wrote Big Little Lies which is one of my favorite books. Nine Perfect Strangers is a good psychological thriller with lots of twists. It does have some dull parts, I won’t lie. I’ve read a ton of her books & all of them are super long!

9 strangers head to a health & wellness resort in Australia hoping to transform their lives with some questionable therapy methods. In the end they get more than what they bargained for & end up having to work together to get the hell out of there.

October’s Pick

The Lies We Told-Camilla Way

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37905907-the-lies-we-told

I gave this book 5 stars & I honestly can’t put into words exactly how this story went down.

The craziness of this book just didn’t stop! It. Did. Not. Stop. I couldn’t put the book down. Every time I tried something new happened & I NEEDED to know right then! There were SO many twists & turns. Just when I thought I was starting to figure it out something huge happened & blew my theory right out the window.

September’s Pick

Goodbye, Paris-Anstey Harris

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37510667-goodbye-paris

I was surprised at how emotionally drained I felt in the end. I should warn you, there is A LOT of talk about cellos & violins, & no, those aren’t secret sex names. I mean the musical instruments. But don’t let that scare you off. I won’t lie, I skimmed over many paragraphs that wondered off into cello making territory.

I was so invested in the actual storyline of Grace & David. Yes, she was his mistress as he was married with children but there was real love there & I found myself just as happy, angry, heartbroken, in love as her. I actually found myself rooting for him in the end, as did everyone else I know who read the book.

There’s humor, love, tears & discovering ones own strengths. I loved it.

August’s Pick

Say You’re Sorry-Melinda Leigh

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33149088-say-you-re-sorry

This book is part of a 6 book series called the “Morgan Dane Series” & I LOVE them! Books 5 & 6 will be released sometime this year but the first 4 books were great! Morgan Dane is an attorney who recently lost her husband overseas, leaving her with their young children. She ends up living in a small town, worker for 2 PI’s who are both retired police officers.

For such a small town there is a ton a drama & crime. She somehow always gets herself jammed up in a pickle. There’s crime, there’s murder, there’s suspense & of course there is love.

The books are quick, easy reads that you get easily wrapped up in. Try them out, you won’t be disappointed!

Runner Up…

The Butterfly Garden-Dot Hutchinson

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29981261-the-butterfly-garden

Let me just start by saying these two books in NO way, shape or form are similar to one another! I mean, there’s scary shit in both, sure, but the Butterfly Garden is a seriously disturbing, messed up story. The book got so much attention though so I had to check it out.

Like I said, this book is f*cked. It’s as dark as dark gets & intensely twisted. It was a good book with a storyline that you don’t see much. If you’re in the mood for a crazy thriller, this is it.

July’s Pick

The Last Time I Lied-Riley Sager

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36626748-the-last-time-i-lied

I gave this one 4.5-5 stars…I couldn’t decide. It was a quick thriller, turned a little strange towards the end but ended up pretty good overall. You are constantly looking for clues to try & figure the whole thing out. At parts I couldn’t help but thinking I was at Camp Crystal Lake…yikes.

June’s Pick
The Kiss Quotient-Helel Hoang

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36199084-the-kiss-quotient

Because I’m too lazy to write out a whole summary & explanation of the book, check out the link above.

So I adored this book! I gave it 4.5 stars. It’s a cute, fun, quick read. Perfect for the summer. It’s totally predictable, you know exactly how the story will go but it’s still really sweet. Who doesn’t love a cheesy, quirky, love story every now & then? Plus, it was Goodread’s 2018 winner in the Romance category! Check it out.
